Lisa Gibson

Lisa Gibson is an accomplished educator with over 20 years of experience, currently teaching AP Government & Politics and Honors World History & Geography in Virginia Beach City Public Schools. Her extensive background includes roles as a district social studies instructional specialist and curriculum consultant for five grants promoting primary source document use.  She was recognized as the 2022 Teacher of the Year by the Rotary Club of Hampton Roads District #7600 and has co-authored multiple peer-reviewed articles on teaching history through culture and landscape. Her leadership extends to professional service as an Advanced Placement Government and Politics exam reader, and a former Executive Board Member of the Virginia Council for the Social Studies and the Virginia Geographic Alliance Steering Committee. Mrs. Gibson's global perspective is informed by her geographic, sociological, and historical field work across diverse locations including Germany, South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Bahrain, Qatar, Cuba, Kenya, and Tanzania.

As a dedicated mentor, Ms. Gibson coaches Scholastic Bowl, Model UN, the Euro Challenge, and Academic World Quest, while also advising the Amnesty International for Students Club. She is passionate about inspiring students to engage with global affairs and helping them develop the skills to become informed, empathetic global citizens. When not in the classroom, Ms. Gibson enjoys reading, traveling with her family, and listening to podcasts.
