Virginia James

Virginia (Ginny) James graduated from the College of William and Mary in 1967, and later returned for her master’s degree. She was a career educator and remains interested in “Life-Long Learning.” Among several clubs, she sponsored and Active Model UN group and traveled to conferences from Harvard to Duke University. For 24 years she served as an advisor for an award-winning yearbook program, a judge, and a speaker at the National Columbia University Conference—and welcomed younger staff (perhaps with the lure of an annual five-day trip to New York City).

She taught Virginia and United States government and relished teaching Advanced Placement Comparative Government Politics. She was also thrilled to be awarded teacher of the year honors.

Ginny has been on the World Affairs Council of Hampton Roads board of directors for nearly 20 years, serving as secretary, and chair of the WorldQuest committee. She says, “serving on two other boards paled in comparison.”

She has been married since 1968 to a fellow traveler who’s also retired. They reared two children and thoroughly enjoy five grandchildren.
